I set out to have my cover showcasing different suitcases that could symbolize Elizabeth Gilbert's travels. I spent aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalot of time on some of the smallest details. Because this concept provided such detail in the imagery on the front cover, I chose to keep the remaining cover very simple by just adding texture to the background. I also wanted to keep a majority of the type in hand writing styles because this book was Elizabeth Gilbert's recordings from her journey. Overall, I am happy with my final project.
Symbolic References on luggage:
Top suitcase: Mangia in Italia postcard ( Eat in Italy,) the Italian flag, and star stickers that read
"L'amor che move il sole e l'altre stelle." which means the love that moves the sun and the other stars.at moves the sun and the other stars."
Middle Suitcase: maalaas which are the Hindu prayer beads
Bottom suitcase: Mencintai heart sticker ( Indonesian for love,) a postcard that reads "greetings from Bali..," and luggage tag that gives the author's name and references her previously well known book "The Last American Man."
